Final post thoughts of the course

Since this is not on the syllabus but I want to write overall thoughts of this course:

This course was the best one ever! I loved to write expressive stories, share thoughts, and I really enjoyed it. It had boosted my creativity levels sky high. I will continue to write creative stories especially my newsletter "USA Yesterday" which is popular with my professors. I will miss this course a lot but will cherish the moments of what other students wrote. Even though I lost the creative writing contest which was a huge bummer but I will not give up. I find that not many deaf people do not know lots of puns. I am lucky to have a special gift to know puns and playing with the English language syntax.

So farewell you all,

Aleksandr Rozentsvit

Play/Video feedback

I showed this to a tutor and this what the tutor told me:

"YOUR VIDEO AND PLAY WAS BORING! I DID NOT LIKE IT! NOT ONE BIT!"

Just kidding. The tutor loved it. He told me that he felt that the play was hilarious feeling that the play could be on a big stage production. He loved how creative I was with the characters and the sound effects added. Also the cabinet pun was hilarious. Because the cabinet meeting was actually taking place in a K-Mart cabinet and that gave a good twist to the English structure. He was floored of how much irony I used and the blending of current events to make the story funny. My video clip was amazing and the tutor really enjoyed it. He was touched by how much I want to be a deaf interpreter in the future. It was amazing to hear that kind of feedback. He also enjoyed reading my newsletter too.

My video clip signed in ASL. It is not voiced so don't panic if you think there is something wrong with the computer

For those whom are ASL impaired: I added a transcript here.

Photos from the events that I went

The play that I went. A deaf play which was really good!

My former English teacher Russell Kane now a professor at Nassau Community College. Told stories about his deaf life and he is HILARIOUS!

I met Bello Nock at New Victory Theater. Went on a special backstage tour. On the right is one of the best interpreters in NYC Candance Penn.

Forgive the blurry photo. I met Luke Adams the guy whom raced on The Amazing Race three times! It was interesting to hear his story.

Poem revision/reflection

Here is the poem revision

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-DFPvK16Ur8QW5fZ1R0c3gtNzQ/edit?usp=sharing

I find it interesting that I'm not a poet nor a lover of poetry. People told me that my poem is perfect little flaws there. One person told me it was more of a map than a poem. I love Midtown but the problem is that there are too many things occurring in Midtown and how can I cram in there. It is like in a supermarket you cannot cram all of the products in one roof right? You have to kick out some products to make room for new stuff. The tricky part is how to make the poem sounds new and modern than using boring same old grind like slower than a turtle. Needs to wake up and perk up the poem itself. When I read a poem sometimes I get bored and not bothering read it. But sometimes the author tricks the reader thinking it a story but it actually a poem. For example Maya Angelou wrote many poems and it is inspiring to read those. Touchy and poems have to be adjusted for the right audience.  Sometimes audience can vary in English skills and the poets have to match the levels. My poem is pretty good English but if I was telling along to the younger audience I have to change the level of the poem.

My writer statement

As a deaf person myself I noticed often deaf people do struggle with puns and humor when they write stories. I have noticed this trend over the times. I get puns from current events and the English language syntax. Growing up I always was motivated to learn new vocabulary and at my High School times my vocabulary expanded. For example the infamous cabinet word. A cabinet meeting which means a governmental staff like the presidential cabinet. But I take the word cabinet and using both definitions. Example "A cabinet meeting is taking place in a cabinet in a K-Mart". I also play with current events and if you noticed in my USA Yesterday I never write a depressing or a violent story. I do not like violence and feel that if I wrote a violent story the humor will be let go and the reader will be puzzled.

At the last page I always like to put down fake ad playing with the deaf and the hearing world cultures. For example the very first ad I wrote down was "Learn Sign Language Through A Phone! No Video Equipment Required". In the real world it is impossible to learn that type of language because it requires visual contact. Then came the fake interpreter scandal with the Mandela interpreter. I mocked that by blending him and a real life interpreter agency that many sign language interpreters do not support due to hiring unqualified interpreters and pay reasons. I cannot name the agency due to privacy reasons but I play with that concept. I even put down sarcasm in the ad by saying "Listen to those satisfied deaf clients whom used our agency!" but those people were not happy. Would you like a interpreter pelting you vegetables because you didn't speak clearly or loudly. No!

I love to write funny stories and playing with the words. I get thrilled when people discovered that they didn't realize that it was written by a deaf person. 12 pages I wrote all myself and they were all floored.

Hybrid blending story

This is one of my parody newsletters. You will find this hysterical. ENJOY!

Short story revision!

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last week. I was super busy!

The revised short story.....

Louisville, Kentucky– At the First Bank located at downtown Louisville which is a building packed with full of crumbled dollar bills and rustled coins but that not important right now. People goes there to get their hard working money and then spend all of their money at the in-house liquor shop in the bank itself. The bank want to boost business and got a liquor license so they opened one.  Police are often called to escort out drunk people in the bank and there is a security guard to oversee the operations and make sure the money are safe. Also making sure that everything is going smoothly at the bank.
Christopher Savings, 41 was a  security guard at the First Bank for 12 years. He decided that after witnessing people getting their money, some passing out on the floor from the liquor, and some crying children whom get bored while their parents are discussing the college fund for them. He planned a robbery heist and the next day he came with a ski mask that he stole from the sporting goods store next door. He decided that the restroom was a ideal place because that way the employees can notice him doing his normal tasks and thinks nothing odd going on. He went to the restroom in the bank and struggled with the mask screaming “STUPID MASK! I NEED TO ROB A BANK RIGHT NOW!”  and a old lady whom was waiting to use the restroom overheard everything that he was saying. When he opened the door with the mask on the lady whom heard the antics didn’t bother to lift a finger and said “Happy robbing moron” and went to use the restroom.  He had a small water gun loaded with water and went to the main floor.

He started to yell out “THIS IS A ROBBERY! DON’T MOVE! THIS IS NOT A THEATER CLASS! GIVE ME YOUR….. DAMN! WHAT IS THE WORD I’M LOOKING FOR? OH THE M WORD! GIVE ME ALL OF YOUR MILK! NO! THAT IS WRONG! MONEY! YES! GIVE ME ALL OF YOUR MONEY RIGHT NOW!’. He stormed at the teller booth and yelled at teller Caroline Debt, 55 whom was struggling with the silent alarm which informs the police that there is a robbery in process. Debt noticed the security guard uniform that Savings was wearing. She burst in laughter and other tellers came started to crowd at her. All of the tellers were laughing  and watching Savings rant about trying to steal money. When the police arrived at the scene they easily arrested Savings for robbery.

Savings got a huge amazing world record breaking jackpot of zero dollars and zero cents= $0.00 during his robbery heist. The bank spokesperson Robert Tax whom had criminal records for 20 successful robberies wrote a statement on a torn piece of Bill of Rights that he stole from the National Archives in Washington D.C. The statement said “First Bank is upset to find out that our dedicated employee had decided to steal money. First Bank will not hire Savings at all. We will hire someone else whom can commit their job not robbing money! First Bank will continue operating at the normal level and we are planning to add a sit down café in the bank. The café will have pastries, coffee, and rewards when you spend something in the café.”  Savings is in jail for 5 years and he didn’t return for comment.

Short story

Hi all,

Sorry for the late post! Here is my creative short story. I think you all going be giggling and laughing on this one. I created this story all myself about a bank security guard arrested for stealing his own bank where he worked for.

The first line I twisted the line from the movie "Airplane!" . In the movie "Airplane!" the stewardess asked the doctor "what is a hospital?" and the doctor said "It a building where many sick people stay there but that is not important right now"

Louisville, Kentucky– At the First Bank located at downtown Louisville which is a building packed with full of crumbled dollar bills and rustled coins but that not important right now. My spring break!

Hi everybody,

Sorry for the lack of the posts over the break. I have been very busy with lots of events and I cannot wait to share with you! Photos will be uploaded tonight or tomorrow.

On April 15th I went to Long Island University which is also called C.W Post. After a rainy one and half hours ride on the bus I arrived at the University. You might ask why I was there? Transferring there? No. I went there to see my former High School English teacher Russell Kane whom is deaf himself. He currently teaches at Nassau Community College (NCC) American Sign Language courses. He was at C.W Post to give lecture on ASL and his deaf life growing up. I know Mr. Kane very well and he has written two amazing books. He is the only deaf person in his family like me and his parents were extremely supportive for him to go through and aiding him. His presentation was hysterical and fun. He was talking about deaf culture like us the deaf community always like to ask more questions and stay longer. He also mentioned that deaf people are open telling sometimes TMI. One TMI part was he was talking about Dr.Oz the TV show bowel movements and Russ told that the show is like the deaf world must be completely open about things.

On April 18th I went to Barnes and Noble Union Square event related to Tribeca Film Festival. I was able to get a interpreter. The interpreter name was Stephanie Feyne and she is one of the best top interpreters in the New York City area. The panel was filmmakers making documentaries and telling their experiences about film. The panel was varied one person focused on the fake artworks in museums and another one focused on the bike tour in Europe. Honestly the lecture was little boring at times and I didn't really get the whole concept. At least I finally went to a real panel talk and I will be more open to go more panel talks if it is more interesting than this one. I found out it was very easy to score a interpreter all I had to do give a call to the Barnes and Noble store location two weeks in advance and they contacted me right away. They told me they will secure a interpreter and it was simple no hassle. Stephanie informed me that Barnes and Noble is very willing to provide equal access without any problems.

One more event I'm going tonight is meeting Luke Adams. Stay tuned......

Reading event summary

Hi Folks,

I went to a show called "The Signal Season Of Dummy Hoy". It performed at Gene Frankel theater in Manhattan. It was directed by Marlee Koenigsberg. The show focused on the deaf baseball player named William Hoy. His nickname was "Dummy" because he couldn't hear and at that time in the 1800's. William "Dummy" Hoy was born hearing but became deaf later on. The show focused on the journey of Hoy to become the first deaf professional baseball player for the Chicago White Sox. He has a remarkable record of: 2,000 hits, 1,400 hits, 594 stolen bases, 287 batting average, and .386 on base percentage. The info can be found in the baseball hall of fame.

The show was amazing. The props, lighting, and the dialogs was flawless. It was a great show. There was no voice-overs but there was captions. Only 1 deaf actor was in the show and the rest are hearing. One of the actors is a sign language interpreter Jon Wolfe Nelson. If you have seen "The L Word" show he was involved with that show. The script was flawless and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Photo coming up soon. I didn't take a picture of myself at the event due to no photography rule. I will scan the playbill and the ticket soon

Author that influenced my works and the photographs of my writing spaces.

The author whom influenced my works is Jared Lopatin. Jared is a high school teacher at my school "Lexington School for the deaf" he teaches science but he is also an excellent author. He is very smart with horoscopes while I'm a dummy on it. He influenced me to write creatively because I loved English and he showed me his creative ways in writing system of his. He is not deaf but he has a M.A degree in deaf education from Hunter College. He is also a director and directed few plays at my alma matter. Jared has written four books three of them related to horoscopes while the fourth one is about deafness. I have read his books and was floored how expertly he knows about it. Blending the difficult concept in a book is really challenging but he pulled it off. When I read it I got the spark of inspiration to write creative ways. I write a parody paper called "USA Yesterday" and he was floored too. He loved the puns and how creative I was. For example a cabinet meeting is taking place in a oversized cabinet in a K-Mart. You might think a cabinet meeting meaning a staff meeting but I take it to a whole other level. I play with multiple definitions and putting hilarious remarks and playing with the standard quotes. Another one is the infamous "don't touch my hair!" while I play with it saying "don't touch my wig!". The point is that I love puns and he love to write puns too. He is a very masterful person and I admire his hard working and motivation to teach.
